Demonstrated and scaled low-carbon solutions to decarbonise the cold chain sector.
Phase Change Materials (PCMs) are substances that release or absorb sufficient energy to provide heating or cooling. These materials show high potential for low-carbon solutions, particularly in replacing diesel usage for temperature control in reefer trucks. The client, a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider, is looking to develop one of the most sustainable cold chain solutions in India by implementing PCM technology. In its journey to pioneer such a landmark transition, the client is seeking to validate PCM technology as a viable alternative to diesel-powered refrigeration in the cold chain sector, particularly given the increasing adoption of electric vehicles. With this background, the client has engaged Xynteo to validate the PCM technology’s commercial viability and develop strategic partnerships across the cold chain value chain.

The initiative
The key objectives for the engagement:
- Testing PCM technology’s viability as a low-carbon alternative for temperature-controlled transportation
- Engaging with cold chain operators to validate operational and commercial feasibility
- Developing scalable business models for wider market adoption
Implementation of PCM solutions through such pilots will demonstrate the commercial viability of sustainable cold chain practices across multiple sectors (FMCG, pharmaceuticals, dairy, bakery, meat, and QSR) and can act as a blueprint for decarbonising the temperature-controlled logistics industry.
