Co-Creating Solutions For An Inclusive Gig Economy

Defining a set of strategic solutions that can work to create a gig economy that is meaningful, inclusive and protects workers.

Xynteo partnered with a financial services firm who recognised that the current structure of the gig economy is not fit-for-purpose.

The opportunity

With over 50% of companies reporting using of gig workers in the last five years, its importance is growing. Our partner recognised that the current structure of the gig economy is not fit-for-purpose and were trading a workable social contract for agility. 

Inadequate legislation and social safety nets fuelled by discrimination, are leading to crisis. It is therefore on businesses to create a gig economy that is inclusive and protects workers.

The solution

Our partner’s ambition to create an influential community of global businesses and their leaders to develop a shared narrative on the importance of a protected and inclusive gig economy in Europe, with our team developing a two phase approach to make this a reality.

To start, an innovation sprint was launched to plan and prepare for a collaboration studio, bringing together key stakeholders, including gig workers. Subsequently, a collaboration studio helped identify, synthesise and share solutions to address current gaps. This included a workshop to develop a narrative and communications plan to generate awareness among gig workers of the firms impact as a solution provider.

The results

Together, we created a shared narrative across a group of influential stakeholders on the need to build an inclusive and protected gig economy and five concepts for partnerships, pilots or projects for the financial services firm to develop further with stakeholders and take to market.
