Bioplastics For A Sustainable Future

The quest for alternatives to conventional plastics has garnered substantial global momentum in recent years, driving advancements in the field of bioplastics. As global concerns about climate change intensify, the imperative to promote sustainable alternatives becomes increasingly critical in mitigating its adverse impact.

Bio-based polymers, derived wholly or partly from biological materials (excluding those found in geological formations or fossilised sources), have amazing potential to tackle the challenge of transitioning away from conventional plastics.

Drawing on Technip Energies’ expertise in the bio-plastics sector, in collaboration with Xynteo, an assessment was conducted on the demand for conventional plastics, the mounting challenges of plastic waste management in India, and explored potential solutions including advanced plastic recycling and the adoption of bioplastics.

This paper – Bioplastics for a Sustainable Future – seeks to enrich the ongoing dialogue surrounding sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics by offering insights and proposing actionable steps towards a gradual transition to bioplastics. By examining the necessity, current status, and obstacles within the bioplastics industry, we aspire for this paper to facilitate informed decision-making, foster collaborative efforts, and promote sustainable practices among a diverse array of stakeholders in India.
