The Xynteo Exchange/Norway 2018 officially kicked-off with a joint keynote by Svein Tore Holsether, President and CEO of Yara and Ishmael Sunga, CEO of Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions.
Svein Tore welcomed the participants and acknowledged the pressing challenges that the world is facing at the moment – climate change, trade wars, and poverty. He pointed out that challenges can only be solved through action but that a stage such as the Xynteo Exchange is the right place to connect ideas, talent and capital and fuse them into new growth opportunities that are fit for the future.
"The Xynteo Exchange is not your typical conference and it shouldn't be." Svein Tore asked Ishmael about growth in Africa and what it was that people in the room did not understand about it. In response, Ishmael asked him about what Yara sees in Africa. Svein Tore talked about the business opportunity Africa presents and that Yara's interest in Africa is not out of charity but a smart decision – it is about growing the right way.
Ishmael Sunga said, "we need to stick to basics, and stick together as partners to collaborate". Svein Tore concluded with the words of the legendary Elvis Presley: "A little less conversation, a little more action".
