Realising a sustainable UK economy will require more than this Budget delivered

Last week, the UK’s Labour government’s first budget demonstrated strong commitment to a greener future. But, in the face of recent projections of the world being on a 3-degree warming trajectory, the budget doesn’t go far enough. While the Chancellor made welcome investments across energy, industry, transport, and hydrogen — a more ambitious approach is essential for the UK to …

Our statement on ‘transitioning away’ from fossil fuels and COP28

City Skyscrapers Skyline at Sunset

As we reach the end of another COP, it was encouraging to see the language in the final conference text found last minute consensus on ‘transitioning away’ from fossil fuels. Yet in our view, after decades of discussion and negotiation, the outcome of 2023 conference isn’t strong enough. Xynteo supports the inclusion of ‘transitioning away from fossil fuels’ within the agreement, but call for a bolder deal that accelerates action, holds nations accountable for commitments, and encompasses broader support for emerging and developing nations.

Empowering farmers through decentralised clean energy

India’s renewable energy shift promises decentralisation that challenges the historical inequal concentration of power perpetuated by the fossil fuel economy. While coal and oil have strengthened traditionally commercial strongholds – solar, hydro and biogas offer localised ownership models that provide communities access and self-sufficiency. The energy transition presents a rare window for rectifying energy poverty through distributed and people-centric pathways congruent with India’s cooperative ideals. But how do we ensure a successful, just, outcome?
