Global business consortium gathers for bi-annual exchange on climate change and names PG&E CEO Peter Darbee to the Xyntéo-GLTE Low-Carbon Leadership Board.

(10 November 2009)

Today Peter Darbee, Chairman, CEO and President of PG&E Corporation, assumes the US chair of the Xyntéo-GLTE Low-Carbon Leadership Board. GLTE – the Global Leadership & Technology Exchange – is an international business consortium founded by advisory firm Xyntéo to promote low-carbon growth and innovation. The consortium is meeting in Alexandria on 9-11 November.

In the lead-up to next month’s international climate change discussions in Copenhagen, some global business leaders are trying to map out their own way to a low-carbon future. On 9-11 November, the Global Leadership & Technology Exchange (GLTE), an international business consortium founded by the Anglo-Scandinavian advisory firm Xyntéo, is meeting outside Washington, DC, in Alexandria, Virginia, at one of its biannual "exchanges". The central purpose of these meetings is to give senior executives a chance to identify opportunities to collaborate with other businesses to capture value while decarbonising value chains.

At the Alexandria meeting, PG&E Corporation Chairman, CEO and President Peter Darbee will be announced as the US chair of the Xyntéo-GLTE Low-Carbon Leadership Board. Since becoming CEO in 2005, Mr Darbee has become one of the energy industry’s most active leaders on climate change issues.

"In this new role, I look forward to helping to shape GLTE’s ongoing efforts to drive collaboration among members as we move to a low-carbon economy, especially as it relates to addressing cross-border opportunities and challenges," said Darbee.

Dr Jamshed Irani, co-chair of the Leadership Board, said: "I am personally delighted that Peter Darbee is joining the board. PG&E is one of America’s leading and most innovative utilities. Its participation in GLTE is a huge step forward for the group."

Dr Osvald Bjelland, Chairman of Xyntéo, said: "The purpose of the Leadership Board is to guide GLTE in its search for innovative ways of decoupling growth from fossil fuel consumption. Peter Darbee’s thought leadership on energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmental policy will add enormous value to GLTE."

The Alexandria GLTE exchange will also see Siemens and Tata Consultancy Services join the group. Other partners are Unilever, Gazprom, General Motors, Yara, DNV, Wilh. Wilhelmsen, the World Trade Centers Association, Tata Sons, the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, Statoil, Acergy and Deutsche Bank.
