Ingar Skaug new Chairman of Mobility
It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Ingar Skaug to the role of Chairman of Xynteo’s Mobility practice. As a past Co-Chair of the Global Leadership and Technology’s leadership board, we are excited to have him involved in our activities again. His considerable experience in the transportation and logistics fields, as well as his wealth of leadership experience in a global environment, will be invaluable to our efforts in finding low-carbon growth opportunities for the Mobility sector.
During Mr Skaug’s tenure as Group CEO of Wilh.Wilhelmsen ASA, he led a major transition of the company’s business from a focus on shipping to one of the world’s largest maritime and logistics services businesses with a very proactive environmental focus. He led a global workforce of upwards of 23,000 employees across 75 countries, operating 150 vessels in global liner trades and running a significant logistics network serving the finished vehicle industry in North America, Europe, Australia and various emerging markets.
Earlier in his career, as President and CEO of Wilhelmsen Lines AS, he successfully led the merger of Wilhelmsen Lines AS with Wallenius Rederei AB to form Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, which he subsequently led as President and CEO. Under his leadership the former Car Carrier Division of Hyundai Merchant Marine was bought as well as a substantial part of the logistics company Glovis.
Before entering the shipping business, Mr Skaug served in various roles within the airline industry in North America and Europe, including Vice President and Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Scandinavian airlines (SAS).
Today, Mr Skaug also serves in various board level capacities including the role of Chairman of the Board of Governors, Center for Creative Leadership and Vice Chairman of the Board, Lauritzen A/S. He serves as a Director in the boards of Petroleum Geo Services, DFDS A/S and as a member of the Advisory Board of Bremer Lagerhaus Gesellschaft AG. He is Chairman of Bery Maritme and a board member of Berg-Hansen and MIROS, a company that produces high-tech tsunami warning and wave radars and oil spill detection systems.
Last year, Xyntéo, in partnership with the Norwegian Shipowner’s Association, published a report on the challenges and opportunities the shipping industry is facing. Responsible for a growing share of global emissions, shipping is a part of the climate problem. But as one of the most carbon-efficient forms of freight transport, shipping is also a pivotal part of the solution.
Mr Skaug contributed actively to this report. You can read the full document here.
