GLTE to be held in San Francisco

The overall theme of this GLTE, to be held in San Francisco on 2-3 November,  is “Changing Times, Smart Solutions”. Building on the success of our most recent exchange in London the opening session will set out the context of our “changing times”, from the fall-out over the Fukushima accident to the resurgence of commodity prices and the Arab Spring.

Taking advantage of our location in one of the world’s innovation centres, we will move onto the “smart solutions” that will help businesses respond effectively to this context and find value in the low-carbon transition. We will explore the role of traditional energy sources; greater electrification of our transport systems; reinventing consumption practices; and the innovation factor – using our proximity to Silicon Valley to help identify the next great leap forward in technology.

The closing panel will explore transformational leadership, asking CEOs and chairmen to debate what it will take to ready businesses for the low-carbon world.

In keeping with GLTE tradition, we have carefully chosen venues that are both inspiring and reflect our theme. We will be meeting at the former Merchant’s Exchange, City Hall, and AT&T ballpark, finishing with a closing reception and dinner in San Francisco Bay, on board the low-energy California Hornblower, in which we will showcase the future of low-carbon shipping.
